Introduction
ConceptLAB is an AI-powered talent hunting startup with a brief unlike most — the client didn’t want to look like the future everyone else was building. They wanted to look like the future people once dreamed of. The direction was clear from day one: retro-futurism. A visual world that borrows the bold optimism of mid-century sci-fi and fuses it with the precision of modern AI technology. With no existing identity to work from, the entire brand — logo, color, typography, stroke systems, and motion — was conceived and built from scratch around this singular, distinctive vision.
Challenge
Retro-futurism is a razor’s edge to walk in branding. Lean too far into the nostalgia and the brand starts to feel like a costume — fun, but not credible for an AI company asking clients to trust its technology with their most important hiring decisions. Lean too far into the future and you lose the warmth, character, and distinctiveness that made the retro aesthetic worth choosing in the first place. The challenge was to strike a balance where every element — the logo shape, the stroke weights, the color palette, the typeface — felt intentional and unified, not like a mood board that couldn’t decide what decade it belonged to.
Approach
Every design decision was made in service of the retro-futurist brief. The logo draws on geometric forms and structured strokes reminiscent of 1960s–70s space-age design — sharp angles softened with deliberate precision, evoking a sense of engineered optimism. The color palette reaches back to the bold, high-contrast tones of vintage sci-fi aesthetics while remaining vibrant enough to feel contemporary on digital screens. Typography was chosen for its dual personality — letterforms that carry the weight of classic display type but read cleanly in a modern interface. Stroke widths and shapes across the identity system were treated as design elements in their own right, reinforcing the mechanical-yet-human quality that makes ConceptLAB’s brand feel genuinely one of a kind. The result is an identity that could only belong to this brand — unmistakably retro, undeniably future.
